QuadMag Prototype: Grindjaw, or just Grindjaw,[1] is a massive MAG Agent that appeared in Project Creber: Extrication Part 2. A gargantuan creature with four hands, a giant minigun, and intense bloodlust to match, Grindjaw is an experimental bioweapon locked up by the A.A.H.W. in Experiment Site 04, released by a scientist in a last-ditch effort to slay Creber. The character is created by Potke with the help of Scorpack, ZizLime, and ShootDaCheese,[2] while the character's sounds were provided with the assistance of RixskyPeasant.[3]

Description

Origin

In an effort to produce more enhanced fighters to forward their goals, the A.A.H.W. held several experiments.[4] Among these include:

  • Combining test subjects with weaponry. One test subject in Experiment Site 04 has a plasma gun for its left hand, and another has swords fused to its hands.
  • Navigation without the use of sight. A subject in Experiment Site 04 has a bloody blindfold, and the sword-handed experiment has its eyes blocked by a metal plate.
  • The incorporation of vicious, bestial genes. The sword-handed subject has an upper jaw of sharp teeth and no lower jaw, while another experiment is a four-legged entity that possesses a protruding jaw with sharp teeth as well as spikes that can be shot from its back end.
  • Tests involving Replication Support Gas (RSG), the very same substance that gave Creber his duplication ability. Those subjected to RSG generate extra mass, and, while this extra mass can be produced in the form of remote clones, the extra mass can also be formed and concentrated in a single body as opposed to separate beings. Results include an experiment that resembles Creber and a two-headed entity with many hands growing from its body.[5]

These same tests, combined and reattempted on a larger scale, eventually lead to the creation of the organism codenamed QuadMag Prototype: Grindjaw,[4][5] which, as indicated by its name, is itself considered a prototype much like the failed experiments that came before it.

Standing at twice the size of a normal MAG Agent, QuadMag Prototype: Grindjaw likely got the first part of its name from its four clawed hands (which happens to match the name of the place where it is imprisoned in, Experiment Site 04, and possess claws like the hands of other MAG Agents), enhancing its strength and versatility (though it does not appear to have enough agility and dexterity to use them to their full capabilities), as well as its status as an unstable prototype, while the second part of its name was derived from its permanently-bared set of teeth, exposed gums, and a robust metal lower jaw with red lights. As with all MAG Agents, it is an immensely-strong and resilient individual, able to move or destroy massive objects and concrete walls while withstanding constant heavy attacks without slowing down.

Due to its instability and the dangers it poses, Grindjaw has several mechanisms that likely helped it function, supported its body, and/or restrained it and its deadly arsenal. Its headgear, resembling that of a Soldat, includes a laser sight, probably to help the MAG Agent's accuracy, as it still appeared to be able to see or sense the world in a way without it. The MAG Agent also has eight red tubes on its metal harness along with one red tube on each side of its head, a metal external spinal column on its back, and a chestplate with "04" on it, serving as protection for a glowing red core on its chest.

Upon receiving enough damage, Grindjaw likely lost the amount of limiters sufficient to restrain it, causing its headgear to eject a cover off of what at first appears to be a single cycloptic eye, revealing that its skull houses a minigun connected to a box mounted to the back of its head, which feeds a belt of ammunition into a vertical slot on the right side of its head. Grindjaw's minigun can fire bullets that are more than twice the size of an average Nevadean's hand, capable of shredding through concrete walls and several bodies, while a horizontal slot on the left side of its head ejects spent casings. This requires a lot of electronic components in its head linked to its brain for direct control.

Weaknesses

The process of concentrating repeatedly-generated mass within a single body has left Grindjaw with a disjointed, feral mindset, similar to how combined presence of many absorbed S-3LFs has overwhelmed MAG Agent: Gestalt to the point of insanity. This could explain why its two pairs of hands seemed to lack dexterity, at times acting like the hands of two separate beings rather than a single entity.

Due to the electronic components present in its head, the MAG Agent's weaponry may be potentially disabled by electrical shocks, though this did not appear to work as planned when an agent shot Grindjaw in the head twice with electrified projectiles, which may have actually caused its limiters to malfunction and eject its minigun cover. Enough heavy damage can blow these mechanisms up in smoke if shot at enough times with powerful weapons like machine guns.

Grindjaw's minigun can be disabled when something like a crowbar is jammed between its barrels, preventing it from spinning up.

Lastly, Grindjaw's high level of durability does have its limits, as demonstrated when Creber subjected its head (and the electronics within) to heavy machine gun fire.

History

Prior to the events of Project Creber: Extrication Part 2, Grindjaw was held captive in Experiment Site 04, separated from the other experiments due to its size and hostility. When Creber invaded Experiment Site 04 and started killing the agency's personnel, one scientist entered a code prior to being killed by Creber, causing a section of the floor to open and bring up six failed experiments for Creber to fight. After Creber killed the experiments, a tremor shook the room. Creber then turned his attention to a red, holographic wall on the left side of the room, which flickered away as the door behind it opened up. Four hands emerged from the darkness and wrenched the doors open, revealing QuadMag Prototype: Grindjaw, who roars at Creber.

Rushing towards its enemy, Grindjaw threw aside all the corpses in its way. Creber shot one of the lights off of the ceiling to briefly block the MAG Agent, and started spawning clones, many of which were easily killed by Grindjaw, forcing Creber to keep cloning himself and grab anti-personnel weapons mounted on the wall, constantly firing, slashing, and stabbing at the giant. Grindjaw got stabbed in one of its left hands, lost a piece of its chest plate due to being repeatedly shot at by an FN P90 submachine gun (which revealed a glowing red core), got a red tube on its suit sliced off, and is even shot in the head three times point-blank with a revolver, though these did nothing to slow it down. Grindjaw cornered Creber under a catwalk, slamming the platform and shutting down the computer on it, causing the panel that originally held the experiments from earlier to recede back into the floor.

At that moment, a Soldat, an Engineer, and three Agents arrive, attempting to kill Creber as well as contain Grindjaw. The MAG Agent roared at the new opponents, but received several hits from the Soldat's rifle to the mouth, got its stabbed left hand blown to pieces with a grenade from the Engineer's M203, had its red chest core destroyed by more Soldat rifle shots, and got tackled by three Creber clones, with one pulling the laser sight away from its head. Stumbling due the assault, the massive creature fell into the receded panel from earlier. Seeing that they can almost contain it, the Soldat rallied the others to keep the pressure on the MAG Agent. Just then, one of the agents fired an electrified projectile into Grindjaw's forehead (likely to hamper the electronic components within its skull), causing the cover over what seemed to be its eye to be ejected, crushing the Creber clone holding the cover against the floor. With the cover no longer in place, Grindjaw extended a massive minigun from its head. The Engineer called for a retreat, one of the agents picked up a dead agent from the floor to cover himself from the incoming attack, and the agent that fired the electric projectile fired a second one at Grindjaw's head, but this did nothing to prevent the MAG Agent from firing on all of them, annihilating both the living and the dead in front of it. Hauling itself out of the pit with a satisfied laugh, the MAG Agent is once again shot several times in the back of the head by a Creber clone, who proceeded to fire his FN P90 into the ceiling to divert the MAG Agent's attention while he hid between two columns for cover, though this did not matter as Grindjaw fired through the columns and obliterated the clone. Seeing that this is not a fight he can take on, the last Creber leaves three copies to distract Grindjaw and escapes into the next room.

Grindjaw makes quick work of Creber's copies and continues chasing him through the facility, breaking through the wall of the next room just after Creber discovers a drawback in his cloning powers (clones would inherit any damage from the specific Creber that spawned them). Creber throws a spear at Grindjaw, with another clone on a higher level pushing a big heavy box on Grindjaw to force it down, allowing a clone on the lower level to jam a crowbar in between the barrels of Grindjaw's minigun, disabling it. Quickly crushing the clones on the lower floor, Grindjaw grabs one of the clones on the higher floor to eat him while the last clone escapes into the next room, where he kills three agents, a Soldat, and two Engineers. Just then, Grindjaw breaks through the narrow door opening, still trying to get to Creber, who, with the assistance of one clone, lifts up a nearby machine gun and ravages Grindjaw's head with a hail of bullets. Screaming as it tried to reach Creber, the MAG Agent's lower jaw is eventually broken off by the relentless gunfire before Creber finally destroyed enough of its brain and blew up the electronics within, putting Grindjaw down for good.

Trivia

  • QuadMag Prototype: Grindjaw mirrors Gestalt, another extremely vicious juggernaut.
    • Both are amalgamations. Gestalt being a combination of several S-3LFs, Grindjaw being a large amount of mass concentrated into a single subject due to RSG, making them at least twice the size of an average MAG Agent.
    • The process of creating them gave them a disjointed, feral mindset, and, consequently, an animalistic drive that resulted in them harming everything in their path, even other members of the organization that created them.
    • Both possess beast-like characteristics. Gestalt has metal tusks on its helmet, Grindjaw has metal jaws full of sharp teeth, hence its name.
    • However, they differ in that, while Gestalt, a being mostly comprised of exposed flesh, is a proper product (having fulfilled the purpose of serving as the vessel of Phobos, though its master's plan of merging it with the Other Place to ascend to godhood failed in the end), Grindjaw is a primarily-cybernetic prototype that was locked away due to being likely deemed a failure or an incomplete product to be updated at a later time.
  • Grindjaw also shares many similarities with Torture.
    • Both were the first MAG Agents in their respective series (the original Madness Combat and Project Creber)
    • Both had massive objects embedded in their head (a pair of nails to test Torture's pain tolerance, a minigun and other electric components to provide Grindjaw with devastating firepower).
    • Both were equipped with massive guns (Torture has a Mossberg 500 that can shoot 20-kilogram slugs, Grindjaw has a minigun that can fire rounds at least twice the size of an average Nevadean's hand).
    • Both have turned on the A.A.H.W., brutally killing several troops before being put down by one who was, at one point, a member of the A.A.H.W. In the non-canon Incident 011A, Torture, displeased with the A.A.H.W.'s lack of unity as a supposedly-cohesive agency, went on a killing spree before one Grunt blew his head up with a grenade launcher. In Extrication Part 2, Grindjaw, an uncontrollable animalistic creature, views everyone as a foe, and is eventually killed by Creber, who was once an A.A.H.W. member ranked as a Grunt.
    • Both forced themselves through a narrow doorway while trying to pursue the protagonist, who then takes advantage of their reduced movement to kill them by destroying their head (Hank ravaged Torture's face with a chainsaw, Creber subjected Grindjaw to heavy machine gun fire).
