The Auditor is the main antagonist of Madness Combat, first seen in Madness Combat 7: Consternation. He is a member of the Employers, a group of powerful otherworldly entities who manipulate Nevada from behind the scenes. He is the one behind Tricky's revival and reinvention as a living weapon to kill Hank J. Wimbleton, and the master of the Improbability Drives.

He is also the creator of the A.A.H.W., an army founded specifically to kill Hank, who he sees as a threat to reality itself because of his endless killing sprees.

Personality

The Auditor is shown to be extremely uncaring for his own minions, mercilessly slaying a grunt seemingly out of rage, as well as absorbing 2 agents to stabilize himself in Madness Combat 10. In some posters, he cancelled the parties during Madness Combat 5.5 and demanded that his minions go back to work, showing himself as a very strict and unforgiving boss. Additionally, the Auditor enhanced some of his minions, including agents and A.T.P. engineers, with powers that can presumably be a form of possession or brainwashing, possibly killing them in the process (supporting this theory is the fact some have been enhanced even after death, and enhanced agents survive what would otherwise be lethal wounds).

Despite his insensitive nature and strictness, the Auditor is not very formal, using slangs and generally informal vocabulary frequently in his own posters, as well as in his machinery (with sights like "OH SHI" written on his Improbability Drive).

The auditor also seems to value his own goals over any type of personal values, allying with Hank, previously his main enemy, to take down Tricky in Madness Combat 11.

Powers and Abilities

Natural Abilities

The Auditor is able to instantaneously teleport himself at will, which is usually shown as him disappearing into a puff of black smoke. In MADNESS: Project Nexus' post-credit scene, the Auditor and the rest of the Employers appear to teleport into Nevada from a different realm, which is supported by Christoff's reaction.

The Auditor is able to summon seemingly any weapon at will, and has been shown creating various blades, SMGs, a even a rocket launcher. He can morph to be as flat and intangible as a shadow, and he appears to be immune to all forms of physical harm, like bullets and blades. During his first fight with Hank and Sanford, he was able to shapeshift into an elongated fist, then later into a dragon's head.

The Auditor does not appear to have very good one-on-one or hand-to-hand combat skills, as when he fought Jesus in Madness Combat 8: Inundation, he is sent sprawling after a few seconds, and in Madness Combat 10: Abrogation, he is pummeled by Hank. He seems to be more skilled with weapons, seen by his use of swords and using a minigun as a long-range weapon.

The Auditor is able to absorb other Nevadeans into his own body, which increases his size and regenerates any potential damage he had taken by that point. Although not shown often, the Auditor also has pyrokinesis, and can manipulate the flames that make up his body to use as attacks.

Improbability Drives and Halo

The Auditor seems to be the creator of the Improbability Drives, a group of powerful reality-warping devices that have been shown to have a multitude of diverse abilities. The Auditor has been confirmed to have a Drive located within his body, enhancing his powers to an extensive degree. The Primary Improbability Drive, which was located within a building and not his body, was used to manipulate events to his favor, progressively upgrading his soldiers' abilities and infecting Jesus with a virus that severely weakened him and made him periodically cough up blood.

After Jesus inadvertently killed himself in Madness Combat 8: Inundation, the Auditor took his halo for himself. The halo gave the Auditor the power to enhance Nevadeans at will, altering their appearances and making them significantly better combatants, as well as making them incredibly resilient to injuries that would normally be fatal. He has also been seen using a beam similar to Jesus' disintegration powers, although what this actually does it unknown since he never hit his targets.

Appearances

Madness Combat 5.5

The Auditor appeared briefly on a poster in Madness Combat 5.5. This was his first chronological appearance, showing he had control over the agents' influence.

Madness Combat 6.5

The Auditor appears in the middle of the episode, watching Sanford and Deimos. He sees Jesus' note saying he quits. From his command prompt, the Auditor sees that Hank being revived by someone with unauthorized access of the portable Improbability Drive, to which he messages Tricky.

When asked, Tricky spams him saying that he will do what he wants and can't be stopped. Taking this in stride, he uses the Improbability Drive to upgrade the 1337 crew to their state in Madness Combat 6: Antipathy.

Madness Combat 7: Consternation

The Auditor's first appearance in the series, MC7

The Auditor first appearance is in Madness Consternation, since MC6.5 was released after it. In the final scene, after Jesus jumps down from the building and kills both Hank and Tricky, the view shifts away and through the window of a lone building in the background. A console with a screen can be seen: the main Improbability Drive, showing the recent events such as that Hank and Tricky were "terminated." A black hand proceeds to operate the machine. It pulls down a lever and increases the "Advanced Training Level" to the maximum or, on the Improbability Drive's pad, the "OH SHI-" level, which would explain the increased amount of A.T.P. engineers starting from Madness Combat 8.

The view then shifts to the front of the person, showing the Auditor for the first time in the series. Two large Mag Agent: V2s can be seen standing behind him, holding mag-sized Mossberg 500s. The scene then fades to complete black with the Auditor's evil thin red eyes glowing for a moment in the darkness before disappearing as well.

Madness Combat 8: Inundation

Jesus is out to end the Madness, and in an attempt to destroy the Primary Improbability Drive, he heads to the Auditor's lair where it is housed. During the episode, the Auditor infects Jesus with some sort of disease to weaken him, which makes him vomit blood.

At the end of Madness Combat 8, Jesus reaches the Auditor's building while avoiding a volley of minigun rounds being fired at him. Jesus succeeds in entering the building, and after killing agents and a Mag Agent, he encounters resistance from the Auditor himself, who injures him. The brief fight proceeds into the room housing the Primary Improbability Drive. Unable to kill Jesus, the Auditor spawns an AT4 and fatally wounds Jesus, but also damages the Drive, starting 'normality restoration'. Both Jesus and the Auditor are then enveloped in a blast of white light.

Madness Combat 9: Aggregation

In Madness Combat 9, the Auditor is alive and well, albeit seen with more distinctive flames surrounding his body. Taking away Jesus' halo and placing it above his own head, the Auditor gains a new power in an appearance similar to Jesus' power to 'dissolve' people. However, the Auditor uses this power to enhance anyone's basic hand-to-hand fighting skills and reflexes. He uses this new power to enhance two of his A.T.P. engineers, sending them after Sanford and Deimos to prevent them from resurrecting Hank. He also brings a newly developed Mag Agent as a backup plan in case his other agents failed in their mission.

He arrives at the resurrection building with Mag Agent: V3 just as Hank is revived in a new form. The Auditor flees, leaving the Mag Agent to fight Hank alone, but the agent is killed. After this, the Auditor reappears, absorbing the corpses of agents to empower himself and prepares to fight Hank and Sanford.

Madness Combat 10: Abrogation

In the tenth installment of Madness Combat, the Auditor continues from where he left off in Madness Combat 9, engaging Hank and Sanford in battle.

Thanks to his abilities to turn into a shadow and have bullets and blows pass right through him, he appears seemingly invulnerable and unimpressed by Hank's and Sanford's attacks. He then starts to use new techniques, such as shooting rays of black fire from his hands, as well as changing his form into fist- and mouth-like shapes to attack. After outmaneuvering his enemies, the Auditor summons a large burst of gunfire and manages to shoot Hank's mutated arm partially off, before attempting to kill Sanford.

However, Hank manages to grab the Auditor from behind, in a choke hold, stealing his "stolen" halo for a short moment in the process. This causes a large amount of electrical energy to sprawl from it, regenerating Hank's arm as well as his intelligence.

The Auditor grabs the halo and puts it back on his head and summons a large spear from the ground to attack Hank. But after a short clash, more energy starts to emerge from the ground behind the Auditor, pulling the spear out of his hands like a magnet. The Auditor, angry about the development of the "fragment rejections," unleashes a final fire attack on Hank before backing off again. This time, he decides to retreat for the moment, and enchants the floor beneath him, causing it to rise into the air as a giant pillar. He continues to summon more pillars, as well as a giant structure behind him.

However, the Auditor is then struck by two bolts of energy coming out of the ground, causing him to suffer wounds for the first time in the series. He realizes that the halo is rejecting him, and decides to retreat into the structure he just summoned to rethink his strategy.

After a longer period of Hank and Sanford fighting their way through the building, the Auditor can be seen again, realizing that the "keystone fragment compatibility has been compromised." He runs into a corridor, seemingly panicking, as another bolt of lightning strikes at him. He then spots two l33t agents and absorbs them, once again increasing his size as well as healing his wounds. He makes the conclusion that he is in need of more bodies that carry his dark energy to enhance and regenerate himself, uses his new greed to reach the top of the structure.

At the end of the episode, Hank and Sanford, after killing several hostile agents, engage the Auditor in combat for the final time at the top of the tower. He sees them, likely confused that the duo got there quickly, and latter uses his shadow ability to surprise the two, knocking Sanford back and quickly disarming Hank. However, just when he is about to strike, Hank uses his new electrical punches on the Auditor, physically wounding him, since the Auditor's invulnerability does not seem to apply to electricity. He tries to strike again, but is outstripped by Hank's one-on-one combat skills, suffering another punch in the process.

The Auditor realizes that he won't be able to win in his current form, since he can now be hurt, and Hank's physical capabilities far surpass his, and absorbs most of the dead agents to heal his injuries and grow even more in size. He attempts to kill Hank with a giant ray of energy, but Hank is once again able to be faster, and wounds the Auditor's face. The Auditor seems dazed for a second, but manages to absorb the last remaining body (a dead Mag agent) to heal himself, growing to a towering size.

In a last-ditch attempt to kill Hank, he summons his sword, and attempts to crush and impale Hank, who is, however, able to dodge and block all attacks. Growing tired of his mortal enemy, the Auditor raises his sword and prepares to charge in for the final blow. More dead bodies from the surrounding areas, such as the bottom of the tower, are being lifted into the air and absorbed by the Auditor, increasing his size to the point that not even Hank would know how to counter the next strike anymore.

Tricky's encounter with the Auditor

However, just when it seems that the Auditor has won at last, a fatal mistake happens. One of the bodies being lifted into the air happens to be the one of Tricky. When Tricky's body hits the Auditor, white flames start to burst out from his back, his eyes turning wide. The Auditor, surprised and shocked by this event, begins to stumble back and forth, shouting the words "WHAT?!" and "NO!, NO!, NO!" into the air, while Tricky responds with "HELLO AGAIN!!!" and "YES!!!, YES!!!, YES!!!". The flames continue to spill out of his body, and eventually, a giant bolt of energy breaks out of the floor, impaling the Auditors back, lifting him into the air and causing a bright light to shine out of his chest. Only a short moment after this, the Auditor's body collapses and explodes into a large cloud of black smoke, resembling Tricky's head.

Madness Combat 11: Expurgation

The next installment of the Madness Combat series reveals that Tricky was able to resurrect himself after being absorbed by the Auditor, taking on a new demonic form with the Auditor's halo and some of his powers. More insane than ever, Tricky promptly banishes both Hank and Sanford to a hellish dimension full of A.A.H.W. troops and skeleton-like zombies in an attempt to kill them both. In this dimension, the Auditor suddenly appears before Hank, lacking his usual flames and sporting countless red scars on his back. After impaling Hank with spikes, he zaps him with dark energy to heal and empower him, also restoring the right arm that Tricky had torn off at the beginning of the episode.

During Hank and Sanford's final push to reach the pillar of light seemingly acting as an exit from the hell dimension, the Auditor appears to contact Hank from afar, striking him with black energy and granting him new weapons to aid him against the waves of armored skeletons Tricky summons against him. After Hank kills Tricky, the Auditor emerges from the remains of the clown's skeletal body; he retains his earlier scars, but he has also regained his flaming aura. He uses telekinesis to reclaim the halo, placing it atop his head saying "FINALLY..." leaving the episode in a cliffhanger.

MADNESS: Project Nexus

The Auditor, along with The Employers, as he appears in MADNESS: Project Nexus.

MADNESS: Project Nexus reveals that the Auditor is a member of the Employers. Once an ally of Project Nexus, they formed a "charter" with Phobos, but their relationship has soured over the years and the Employers, Auditor included, have hired Hank and 2BDamned to shut down Nexus Core once and for all.

Ironically, the A.A.H.W. are nominally allied with the Nexus Core; locked "out of the loop" as it were, they attempt to stop Hank several times throughout the campaign.

The Employers, Auditor included, appear in the game's Epilogue in a group of four. The Auditor himself tells Christoff that they have a new "project" for him, and that when the time comes he will follow their orders. Template:Clr

Trivia

  • Before Madness Combat 8: Inundation was released, many people believed that the Auditor would turn out to be the Sheriff revived, but Krinkels stated that this was not the case.
  • The Auditor is the only character to have unique feet sprites, as his are pitch-black like the rest of his body, while every other character wears nondescript grey shoes.
  • According to Krinkels, the Auditor has always existed as a shadowy figure, and at no point in time was a regular grunt. He also says that the Auditor originated in Nevada.
  • Despite being the main antagonist, he has the second lowest body count of any of the main characters, at a measly 3, just barely beating out the Sheriff, who has only one kill to his name.
  • Aside from the Sheriff, the Auditor is the only main character that has never appeared in any non-canon episode.
  • The Auditor, Jesus, the Sun, Tricky (in Tricky Madness 2), the Demon, and enhanced l33t agents and A.T.P. engineers are the only characters to have visible eyes.
  • The Auditor, Mag Hank, Mag Agent: V3, the Demon, Sanford (in ANAMNESIS.fla), and the Sun are the only characters without the facial cross.
  • In Madness Combat 7.5, it was shown that the Auditor's online social name is "BIGBADAUD999."
  • When asked via Curious Cat on what the Auditor was drinking while at his desk in Madness 6.5 and 8, Krinkels revealed that the Auditor was consuming some type of sugary drink. He also revealed that due to the Auditor's bizarre body composition, consuming foods high in sugar are unable to affect him, meaning he can have as much as he wants.
  • As Krinkels was asked if the Auditor died when he absorbed Tricky or if he was just teleported to Hell, he answered "He got a little inverted and then wound up dragging Hank and Sanford in too."
  • Krinkels said the Auditor is named "the Auditor" because he thinks it's a cool word that doesn't mean something that cool.
  • When asked about Auditor's goal, Krinkels said, "The Auditor doesn't seek idolization. The Auditor a living avatar and gateway to a Hell as Nevada knows it. Typically his job is more custodial but Hank and friends keep screwing everything up, so the auditor conscripted an army (AAHW) as a means to have access to a functionally endless source of manpower, for what help that provides."
  • Krinkels was asked if the AAHW fear the Auditor. In response he revealed that fear is not a good motivator for Nevadeans, and the AAHW mostly just stay out of the Auditor's way and seek to appease him for their own benefit.
  • Krinkels was asked about how the Auditor differs from the other Employers. He stated that while all Employers do business in Nevada, "Auditor IS unique in that they'll pick fights with the inhabitants. Auditor learned the hard way that lowering yourself in such a way is unwise. When will they learn?"
  • Krinkels was asked if the Auditor is superior to other employers. he states "I'd argue that the Auditor is inferior to the others, considering their proclivity for squabbling with mere mortal Nevadeans. But to compare and contrast them is super meaningless and based entirely on our own notions of what is valuable."[1][2]
