There are primarily two types of melee weapons: blade weapons and blunt weapons. Blade weapons have sharp edges (such as knives) or have sharp points (such as spears). Blunt weapons like the baton lack blades and rely more on strength to injure foes. In the game Madness: Project Nexus (Classic), blade weapons on average are more powerful, but blunt weapons are more proficient at knocking away enemies.

Polearms are weapons consisting of a very long haft (usually longer than the user) and have a blade, spike, or club on the striking end. The longer reach of polearms allows for a more effective reach and stronger striking power.
